Maternal/Child Nursing Clinical (NUR 241)

Course Memo
The focus of NUR 241 is to provide an opportunity for students to apply concepts learned in the classroom to the clinical setting for the care of the childbearing family and neonate. The student will care for children in various settings, as available. |Prerequisites: NUR 130/131, NUR 125, NUR 212/213, BIO 112/112L |Corequisite: NUR 240|
- Demonstrate understanding of the family-centered birth process.
- Demonstrate evidence-based techniques to perform a postpartum assessment.
- Demonstrate evidence-based nursing assessment and intervention of the normal newborn infant.
- Collaborate and evaluate the important elements of discharge teaching for the childbearing family.
- Develop a teaching plan for a breastfeeding/bottle feeding mother.
- Utilize effective communication techniques with members of the childbearing family.
- Evaluate the nurse’s role with health promotion activities in the community and school settings as applicable.
